Week Four was a big one, with Lockport seeing a total of eight different duals in three days, coming away with a perfect 8-0 record and a Ron Sauer Dual Team Tournament Championship. Week Five is a bit more passive, with four duals scheduled for Varsity. Friday Night is Senior Night, at the Central Campus Gym at 5:30 against Homewood-Flossmoor, while Saturday we have a quad with some tough teams.
And, of course, check in on our alumni. A couple big name opponents can be found in there. Click to read about it!
It may have taken four trips to do it, but Lockport finally won the Fox "Ron Sauer" Dual Team Tournament, hosted by Fox Senior High School in Arnold, Missouri, and they did it in dominant fashion. Posting a 7-0 record over the course of Friday night and Saturday, the Porters dominated their competition, outscoring their opponents 422-70. Click to for a brief recap and link to full results.
On Thursday evening, Lockport visited Bolingbrook High School in the first conference dual, defeating the hosts by a 54-19 score, in a dual that twelve of the fourteen weights ended with bonus-point victories.
Week three brought us the first true action of the season - and Lockport came away with a perfect 5-0 record. Week four takes the Porters to Bolingbrook, and then Missouri. Or, as far too many of the locals call it, "Missour-uh." Click here for the recaps, some interesting box scores, and a preview of the upcoming week!
The Lockport wrestling team had a bit of a chip on their shoulder when they arrived at Minooka for the annual quad with Minooka, Belleville West, and Mt. Carmel. After all, the Porters came into this season ranked 20th in the nation by InterMat, and 24th by USAToday, while Mt. Carmel was unranked in these national publications. Yet when the first in-state rankings came out last week, Lockport found itself 4th in 3A, while Mt. Carmel sat atop those rankings. The Porters wanted to show that they're the top team in the state, and that's just what they did, sweeping all three duals on the day, including a big 38-20 win over Mt. Carmel.

Lockport Wrestling, ranked 20th nationally by InterMat, has started the 2016-2017 season off just the way the team had hoped. The Porters started the season by picking up back to back wins in the first two days of competition. On Tuesday, Lockport defeated Yorkville High School by a score of 44-19, then rolled through West Aurora on Wednesday, 58-9.

Last Wednesday through Saturday, Tulsa was the home of the Junior National Duals. Coming off of a Cadet National Freestyle Title, Team Illinois had high expectations in the duals, but came up a bit short, finishing in second place in both Greco and Freestyle. While we did not have any coaches working with the Junior teams, we had three wrestlers participating in the duals: Anthony Molton, Matt Ramos, and Shayne Oster.

This blog will be a little different from most where we just report on the tournaments. This week Illinois (and a bunch of Lockport kids) competed in the Cadet Greco and Freestyle National Dual Championships in York, PA. Each of these teams consisted of 27 of the top kids in the state born in 2000 and 2001 to represent Illinois in 17 weight classes of 7 dual meets in each event (14 total) Many of these 27 wrestled both tournaments so they had a 4 day grind.

There are several big events in the wrestling offseason, but they all focus on the Olympic Styles Freestyle and Greco Roman. These two styles are different than the Folkstyle we do during the high school season. . .

This past Saturday, the Lockport Porters wrestling team returned home from Bloomington with it’s best trophy to date – a third-place trophy from IHSA Dual Team State Tournament, following a 42-25 victory over Providence Catholic High School in the third-place dual. This is the wrestling program’s second trophy in as many years, after taking home a fourth-place trophy last season.

On paper, 6th ranked Lockport appeared to be heavy favorites heading into Tuesday night's dual with 19th ranked Moline. After all, even coming from the same individual sectional, Lockport qualified six wrestlers to the Individual State Tournament to Moline's three. Lockport placed three, Moline placed zero. Tuesday night, none of that mattered, as Moline pushed the Porters to the edge. Despite trailing for most of the dual, the Porters came through in many ways, and managed to pull out a 36-28 victory . . .

Lockport's wrestling team left Assembly Hall Saturday night with a sour taste in their mouths. Despite coming in with six state qualifiers, only three left with medals, and none with a coveted bracketboard. It was a bittersweet weekend, as none of the wrestlers were happy with their overall performance, but at the same time, half of our athletes competing in the tournament placed in one of the hardest state tournaments in the country.
