Lesson 1: Coach’s and Parent’s Mindset

HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR BEST PERFORMANCE…

In order to achieve you best performance you need to train for both the physical and mental aspects of competition. Everyone trains for the physical part, but many ignore the mental aspect. Surveys of Olympic athletes show many feel that the mental component is greater than 70% of their performance. At that high of a level everyone can perform the physical pieces in isolation but being able to perform under pressure is an entirely different thing. Over the season we will be looking at a systematic approach to identifying the mental blocks in performance and how to move past them.

LESSON 1: Coach’s and Parent’s Mindset

In this lesson we will look at what a coach and parent does to help and hurt your athletic performance. Remember to be honest with your answers, your coach and/or will see them so that they can coach you to perform to the best of your ability. Your coaches understand that they may be doing things currently that do not lead to your best performance or they would not be having the team participate in Mindset Training. Many times they may be doing things they do not realize are causing you stress in your competition.

Before moving on fill out the form for your coach and your parent. This survey does not have to be shared with your parent but it will help to identify some anxiety causing hurdles.

Coach’s and Parent’s Pressure Survey

After filling out this please watch this video that explains the next portion survey we will be doing and will be shared with coach and parent.

After watching please fill out the Coach’s and Parent’s Mindset guide. Fill out at least two copies one for Coach and one for Parent.

Finally, the hardest part can sometimes be telling your parents and coaches that you want them to show their support in a different way that will make you enjoy yourself more and perform better. Your last assignment for this is to have a conversation with them and tell them how they can support you to make you perform better.
