PREVIEW: WEEK OF 12/7/15

This week will be a very busy week for Lockport, with four straight days of competition.  The schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 9: @ Stagg.  Wrestling begins at 5:00pm – ALL LEVELS
  • Thursday, Dec. 10: Home vs. #3(2A) Lincoln-Way West.  Wrestling begins at 5:30pm. – ALL LEVELS
    • Lincoln-Way West’s varsity team features eight wrestlers ranked in the top 12 in 2A, and one honorable mention, per the 12/1 rankings on Illinois Matmen
  • Friday Dec. 11: @ Homewood-Flossmoor HS.  Wrestling begins at 5:00pm. – ALL LEVELS
  • Saturday, Dec. 12:
    • Varsity: Home - Lockport Invitational – 10-team mega-dual.  We will tentatively be wrestling Lyons Township, Rockton-Hononegah, and Wheaton North - all competitive duals with teams that have ranked wrestlers.  Wrestling begins at 10:00am
      • All teams: Lockport, Marist, Lyons, Wheaton N, Rockton-Hononegah, Hubbard, Argo, Hinsdale Central, Bradley-Bourbonnais, Normal West, Brother Rice, Oak Forest, Lake Park
    • Sophomores: @ Wheaton North Sophomore Invite.  Wrestling begins at 9:00am.
    • Freshman: @ Richards Freshman Invite.  Wrestling begins at 9:00am.

Wrestlers will be informed by the end of the week by their specific level coaches where they will be going on Saturday.

THIS WEEK'S ALUMNI RECAP

Jameson Oster, Northwestern University: Oster went 1-1 this weekend, picking up a win against Princeton's 17th ranked Jordan Laster on a last second takedown for a 7-6 decision.  Oster also lost 8-5 to Rider's Paul Kirchner.  Oster is now 5-2 in official team competition this season.

Brad Johnson, University of Oklahoma: Posted a 3-2 record at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this weekend falling one win short of placing.  Johnson lost a close 3-1 overtime decision to #9 Jared Haught of Virginia Tech.

On the International levels, we have two new pieces of  news.  USA Wrestling released its latest national rankings for the international styles and two alumni are in the top five at their respective weights.
--Haley Augello (NYAC) is ranked 4th in the country at 48 kg/105.5 lbs in Women's Freestyle.
--Mark Stenberg (NYAC) is ranked 5th in the country at 85 kg/187 lbs in Greco-Roman.
